European Sankirtan Newsletter - August 2026

Dear Prabhus,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Despite summer distractions the month of August went well but could have been much better. London of course maintained its amazing level of book distribution along with the rest of the UK yatra. Italy was number one again in continental Europe despite doing much less than the previous two months. France came in second, consolidating their forces between Paris and New Mayapur. Then Hungary came in third, overcoming Germany despite its much smaller size. Then the Dutch yatra despite having no temple bramacaris did an amazing number of books including 14 Srimad Bhagawatam sets. After them was the Czech Republic and Slovenia, one of the smallest countries under the enthusiastic leadership of Mukunda Madhava prabhu saturating their country with Srila Prabhupada’s books, probably the greatest number per capita in Europe.

We are now coming down to the wire for the Bhadra campaign ending on September 27^th so let’s give the last big push for the Srimad Bhagawatam sets and make it to the 100,008 mark. We can do it if all of us are meditating and endeavoring to give more and more people the opportunity to receive, read and hear the Srimad Bhagawatam.

I would like to quote from Srimad Bhagawatam about this.

SB 3-5-10 purport “there are two important Krsna-kathas currently in the world – Bhagavad gita and Srimad Bhagawatam. Bhagavad gita is Krsna katha because it is spoken by Krsna, whereas Srimad Bhagawatam is Krsna katha because it narrates about Krsna. Lord Caitanya advised all His disciples to preach Krsna katha all over the world, without discrimination because the transcendental value of Krsna katha can purify one and all from material contamination.” So, Srila Prabhupada said that book distribution is the best preaching. We are giving the people the opportunity to hear Krsna-katha in their own home in the form of the Bhagavad Gita and the Srimad Bhagawatam, and perfect their lives.

Another very nice verse from the Srimad Bhagawatam 2-2-37 “Those who drink through oral reception, fully filled with the nectarean message of Lord Krsna, the beloved of the devotees, purify the polluted aim of life known as material enjoyment and thus go back to Godhead, to the lotus feet of Him (the Personality of Godhead)” …..purport “And by the constant hearing of the messages of the Bhagavad gita, and later of Srimad Bhagawatam. One is assured herein by Srila Sukadeva Goswami that he will reach the Personality of Godhead and render Him transcendental loving service in the spiritual planet of the name Goloka Vrndavana, which resembles a huge lotus flower.” Srila Prabhupada kijaya our saviour that gave us the best Krsna katha Bhagavad gita and Srimad Bhagawatam.

Just in time: Ukraine and Moldova just got their scores in for August with Ukraine edging out the Czech Republic. The other day I was distributing books and gave a couple to a middle-aged lady from Ukraine, and I asked her how things were going there. She said that in the beginning it was very difficult but now everyone has learned to go on with life as usual. So also book distribution is going on as usual.

The next monthly Sankirtan meeting will be held by Trai das prabhu on October 20^th at 19:00 CET and 18:00 UK time.

Meeting Sara today was simply wonderful. One of those encounters where Krishna brings someone in front of you ready to receive, who feels the importance and transformative power of these books as soon as they see it and readily takes them with gratitude and appreciation. Sara practices and studies buddhism for some years. She showed me a tattoo on her arm of a lotus flower sprouting from an open book and said she clearly felt this encounter was a divine message telling her to expand and learn something new in her spiritual life. We chanted a Maha Mantra together after a meaningful conversation and both expressed our gratitude for that encounter.
As we’re saying goodbye a lady approaches me with a huge smile and touches my shoulder. For my surprise it’s Vera, my mother’s childhood best friend who’s like an aunt for me and who I haven’t seen for about 10 years. We exchange a warm hug and she tells me “You won’t believe it, but I was just on the phone with your mother 10 minutes ago, who I haven’t spoken to in 2 or 3 years. I told her I was coming to Aveiro for some bureaucracies and she tells me you were here too. She spoke about your spiritual journey and how you’re travelling distributing books to people. I was so happy to hear this and thought I’d love to meet you. As soon as I step out of the car here you are! Nothing really is by chance!” She told me how her life has been completely transformed since she joined a christian prayer group 2 years ago, I told her how I met the devotees, about my trip to India and we shared impressions on our relationship with God, His glories and how our lives were never the same since He came into the picture. She took a book with great affection and promised me she’d read it. We hugged again, bestowed blessings upon each other and went on with our days with warm hearts and renovated faith, knowing Krishna puts in our paths those we’re meant to meet in order to deepen our love for Him.

USA - Adikarta prabhu has been doing book distribution for 55 years

Going on sankirtan is very soothing to the soul. When anxiety gets to me, the only cure is to go out and distribute books. As Mahaprabhua said , it increases the ocean of transcendental bliss.
Life in this world can be extremely trying, but I feel so fortunate that I can go out and meet lovely spirit souls. I just hope my body allows me.to do this as long as I live!
I love Kirtan too, but there's a special taste from giving out love in the form of Srila Prabhupada's transcendental books.
